The M3 instance type provides a more balanced level of CPU usage and memory. M3 instances use solid-state drives (SSD), instead of traditional HDDs, so they are better equipped to offer improved I/O performance. The current generation is an improvement over its M1 predecessor, which didn't feature the latest version of Intel Xeon processors or SSD storage.

The M3 instance type is suitable for small- and mid-sized cloud workloads, such as databases that require increased memory for data processing, caching fleets, running back-end servers (including SAP), cluster computing and other enterprise applications.
