The T2 instance family of AWS EC2 instance types is a group of burstable performance instances that feature a baseline level of CPU performance and capability to help with cloud load balancing. They are unique due to their ability to 'save' non-utilized CPU for use up to 24 hours later. The T2 family is the lowest cost, general-purpose instance type and is highly accessible via Amazon's free tier service.

This EC2 instance type is ideal for workloads that don't use the maximum CPU level often, but sometimes require a CPU burst. This includes Web servers, small databases or non-production environments.
