AWS Partner Network (APN)

Contributor(s): David Carty

The AWS Partner Network (APN) is a group of cloud software and service vendors that have earned endorsement from Amazon Web Services after meeting several criteria. AWS divides partners into two groups: APN Consulting Partners and APN Technology Partners. An APN Consulting Partner helps an AWS customer implement and manage an AWS cloud deployment. These types of partners include system integrators, managed services providers, and other consultancies and agencies. An APN Technology Partner provides software tools and services that are hosted on or integrate with AWS. These types of partners include independent software vendors and providers of software as a service, platform as a service, developer and security tools.

Both groups are included in the AWS Partner Directory; the directory allows an AWS user to easily find a partner according to need. The directory divides partners into several categories that include business software, software infrastructure, developer tool, APN Program, APN Competency and APN Skills.

An AWS partner can advance to higher performance tiers based on achieving thresholds for training, customer engagement and monetary investments and fees, enabling additional partner benefits. AWS offers four performance tiers for an APN Consulting Partner: Registered, Standard, Advanced and Premier. AWS offers three performance tiers for an APN Technology Partner: Registered, Standard and Advanced.

APN offers programs that provide additional support for partners. APN Consulting Partner programs include the AWS Channel Reseller Program, AWS Managed Service Program, AWS Competency Program, AWS Government Program and AWS Marketplace Consulting Partner Program. APN Technology Partner programs include AWS SaaS Partner Program, AWS Direct Connect Program, AWS IoT Hardware Program and other programs offered to consulting partners.

APN also includes AWS Test Drive, a free program that enables an AWS partner to launch preconfigured server-based tools and workloads -- developed by other APN Consulting and Technology Partners -- in a test environment alongside step-by-step manuals and labs. The AWS Test Drive options include a variety of popular cloud computing categories, including big data, security, storage and DevOps.

AWS offers free e-learning courses are available through the APN Portal to help partners gain accreditation in particular technical areas. An AWS end user can also register for webinars, workshops, boot camps and other educational AWS material on technical, marketing and business topics.

An AWS customer registers for partner status then receives log-in credentials for the APN Portal. The customer can then add users through a self-registration link. APN also provides a Partner Scorecard to track progress of partner tier status.
